For Fall/Winter 2025, we set out to push duck canvas to its limit. The result is the Fat Fox Selvedge: a 22.7oz fabric made entirely from naturally colored FoxFibre® cotton, grown by cotton breeder Sally Fox. No dyes. No chemical coloration. Just raw, heavyweight canvas built from the fiber’s natural tone.
Naturally Brown.
The warm, earthy color of the Fat Fox Selvedge comes directly from the cotton itself. FoxFibre® is a naturally pigmented, organically grown cotton developed by Sally Fox, who has spent over four decades stabilizing the color, improving fiber strength and extending the staple length so it can be spun into high-quality yarn suitable for heavy fabrics.
FoxFibre grows in shades ranging from tan to brown, and even green. The color deepens with exposure to sunlight and washing, allowing the fabric to evolve over time in a way that dyed canvas cannot.
The yarn still carries traces of the cotton seed, giving the fabric natural specks and texture you can see up close.

Abnormally Heavy.
Duck canvas was used for some of the earliest workwear before denim took over, but the Fat Fox Selvedge is a very different beast. At 22.7oz per square yard, it sits in a category of its own. Traditional duck canvas ranges from 10oz to 14oz; even the heavy stuff tops out around 16oz. A canvas this dense, woven selvedge, and wearable as pants is extremely rare.
Despite the weight, FoxFibre gives it a surprisingly soft undertone. It feels rigid and structured in hand, but it breaks in smoothly with wear.
Selvedge Details & Construction
To keep the fabric’s natural character intact, every component follows the same philosophy:
-
100% FoxFibre® warp and weft
-
Natural ecru pocket bags with visible seeds
-
Natural vegetable-tanned leather patch, chromium-free and dye-free
-
Pink selvedge edge as a small contrast detail
-
Antique-tone hardware chosen to match the palette
It’s the most complete expression of FoxFibre we’ve ever put into a single fabric.
Who Is Sally Fox?

Sally Fox is one of the most influential cotton breeders of the modern era. Her work in developing naturally colored cotton with long, spinnable staple length has provided an alternative to dye-intensive cotton production. FoxFibre® requires no conventional dyeing, a process that typically uses significant amounts of water and chemicals.
Her contributions combine agricultural science and environmental design, and we’re proud to work with her on this fabric.
