Estimated Post Soak Measurements For The 32oz Indigo Selvedge Denim

Naked & Famous Denim first introduced the Super Heavyweight 32oz Selvedge Denim in 2014. We did a restock in 2016 and finally, three years later we'll be restocking sizes 28 to 38 any day now. What takes us so long to restock? It is unimaginably hard to produce these jeans. First, we have to convince the factory in Japan to make them. The yarn is 1" x 0.5" thick. The fabric is so difficult to sew that it takes the skill of 3 machine operators to complete each step, and they can only produce 2 pairs in a single day. When the jeans finally arrive at our factory, we apply each super thick 12-15oz cowhide leather patches by hand.

 

The 32oz Indigo Selvedge are Unsanforized. The care label suggests these jeans will shrink approximately 6-8% after first soak. It is impossible to say exactly how much your jeans will shrink because it depends entirely on how you wash and dry your denim. To give you an example of how much they can shrink, I brought a pair home this week, measured them before and after washing, calculated the shrinkage percentage and logged the estimated post soak measurements for each tag size based on my results. I washed the jeans inside-side-out, at high temperature, in a regular spin cycle (50 minutes), in a front-load washing machine, without any soap, and laid flat to dry on a drying rack in a sunny spot in my apartment. Here is the shrinkage percentage based on my washing and drying conditions.
